Did someone say chickies?? I love chickies! They are so sweet with their little “peep, peep!” noises, and their fluffy, downy feathers. I created this art project for the springtime to remind myself and the kids of the new beginnings Easter brings; and the sweet innocence of baby chickies that reminds us that our innocent Savior chose to die and rise again to save us! For these reasons, it’s an amusing project for all ages. Plus, kids always love using real eggshells for projects!

This quick, but engaging project uses a few simple supplies, Pom Poms, Googly Eyes, Construction Paper, and Glue.  For the egg shells, just use what you have! A note about the eggshell…please WASH the eggshell thoroughly (but gently!) with soap and water, as raw eggs do have bacteria. Soap and water will make them safe for little hands. Our chickens lay both brown and white eggs (we have two breeds), and while the example I made below uses white eggshells, any color eggshell will be great.

This project requires the child to utilize their dexterity, and other fine motor skills. Developing these abilities is of utmost importance for later years, as they are directly linked to penmanship and writing skills. If you’d like to learn more about what types of fine motor skills are important, I found this helpful article published by Michigan State University Extension.

“Chickies in an Egg” can be displayed on the coffee table, and end table, on the  branches of your Easter Tree, or anywhere else you would like! They also make sweet, joyful gifts for grandparents and loved ones.

Mrs. Twine’s Bookshelf

This is my absolute favorite Easter Book! The fun of building excitement by reading as a bed time story will not disappoint.

This touching story explains what a special gift we have in Easter!

Kids with siblings will relate really well to Marshmallow in this story.
