It has been such a fun experience to foster these cute little chicks from when they were only days old until now, when they are ready to go home! They were so timid and fragile when we got them, and they have grown robust, curious, and BIG! They are about quadruple the size they were when they came to us. In only a few short weeks, they grew sooo much!
Hearing the sweet “peeps” and “chirps” get louder and more pronounced has been quite fun! Sometimes, they surprised even themselves with their chorus, I think. Of course, as they grew, so did their….aroma. The last two weeks proved a little more challenging, only because their crate needed cleaning much more often, as did their water container. As they got bigger, they became really proficient at kicking wood chips and “other inedible stuff” into it. Yuck! We made sure to check their water every hour to keep it safe and drinkable for them.
I am so grateful we were given the opportunity to care for these adorable little fluffs while they were so young and helpless. It was also great for the kids, who loved taking responsibility for checking on them. What a great learning experience. Now, as you know, we have raised chicks once before this…our own current backyard chickens! It had been a while, though, and it was awesome to have some babies again. We don’t have room to get our own additional chickens, so fostering these cuties was perfect for us.
Isn’t it fun to be open to new ventures? We never know what life will toss our way! We just need to be willing to open our arms and catch! Blessings and joy are around every corner…all we need to do is keep our eyes open for the chance to take hold of them! Stay tuned for whatever next adventure awaits us…until then, look for the joy in all you do. It’ll be there!
